I watched a Hallmark movie last night called "Journey." It told the story of a boy named Journey and his sister. They lived with their grandpa and grandma. Both of their parents had left the children. Before the mother left, she destroyed all her family photographs and left them in a shredded pile which Journey found. He was very upset that he had no pictures of his parents or his life as a young child and tried to put the pictures back together much to no avail.

His grandpa started taking photos of all the every day activities that they were involved in. Everyone else in the family thought the grandfather was foolish for wasting his time taking pictures of every day stuff. He developed the pictures and hung them on a walls of a room in the barn. He found the old negatives of the pictures that the boy's mother destroyed and reprinted them too.

When the boy saw the picture room, he realized the grandfather was showing him where he came from and how much he wanted the boy to be a part of his and the grandmother's life. He finally came to see how much the grandfather had loved him all along.

It reminded me of your blog post "A New Look at Something Old." It was a great story and told about the importance of every day family pictures.

Thanks for the photography tips. My sons are grown now and all the photos we took while they were growing up mean a whole lot to us now. We homeschooled and we did a lot of unit study adventures. It's great fun to relive those times through the pictures we took.

I love the idea to shot your subject off-center! I guess it's all about looking at the subject a little differently.

Heather,

I am going to forward this on to one of my kids who loves taking pictures but never notices the unmade bed in the background or the dirty clothes on the floor. The background is so important when composing a good shot.

Thanks for the tips! I'm sure these will help all the ebayers in my family take better pictures.

Rhea!
who is amazed at what you can do with a simple camera these days
